THE CHALLENGE OF EXAMPLES: Children watch and learn from you all throughout their lives. They see every move you make, whether you’d like them to or not. Questions like:Why are we going on vacation here? Why are you driving there instead of flying? Why did you purchase that car? can open up conversations that will help you teach by example. Answers like, the vacation here will be more cost efficient than the other one, this car gets better gas mileage than the other, and flying was only an option during certain dates, are great way to get children to understand that life isn’t always simple. It’ll also help them understand how to make better judgment calls and decisions based on financial situations.
Teaching your children, early on in life, examples, how to make good judgement calls and decisions, will hopefully help them understand your decisions when estate planning. By the time the estate plan comes into play, they’ll understand why you've requested the things you did.
